Ocean Experience Surf School with Camp Wet and Wild in the news!
OCEAN EXPERIENCE SURF SCHOOL PARTNERS WITH THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO TO OFFER A WEEKLONG SURF CAMP FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILTIES
Ocean Experience Surf School and Camp Wet and Wild unite for the 5th annual surf camp for handicap and disabled people during the week of July 26, 2010. In conjunction with the San Diego Park and Recreation Department Therapeutic Services Division, Ocean Experience Surf School will host a four-day surf camp at Mission Point and South Mission Beach Jetty.
The focus of this program is to provide participants with and without disabilities, the opportunity to experience the joy and thrill of surfing. With a step-by-step surf skill progression and through the use of adaptive equipment, Wet and Wild campers will explore all the fundamentals of surfing, including: balance training on the Indo Board, paddling progression, the “pop up”, catching waves, water safety and oceanography.
“It’s all about the sense of accomplishment the students go though. When they are able to accomplish this, it builds confidence and empowers the students. We find this to be a deeply meaningful experience for the instructors and participants alike,” explains Rodger Caldwell, Director and Founder of Ocean Experience Surf School. “The Instructors really enjoy being able to share something they’re passionate about and we appreciate this opportunity to make surfing accessible to everyone.”
In addition to surfing, Camp Wet and Wild will also offer kayaking, outrigger canoeing, crafts, special exhibitions, and a field trip to SeaWorld. Camp Wet and Wild is open to any individual, with any disability, ages 7 to adult. The camp will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, July 26 – 30, 2010 and costs $158.25 for residents of San Diego and $166.50 for non-residents.
