OBSS’s 7th Annual Holiday Skate Jam at the OB Holiday Parade

Celebrate the holiday season with Ocean Beach Surf & Skate at the 7^th Annual Holiday Skate Jam on December 3, 2011.  As part of the 32^nd Annual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade, OBSS, Silly Girl, Original Betty and A.W.O.L. are teaming up to present this awesome skate jam in the OB Pier parking lot featuring open skate sessions, a skate contest, a ladies only skate contest and amazing prizes from Globe, Vox, Almost, Body Glove, Toy Machine, Creature, Independent and many more. 

The skate jam starts at 9:00am and ends just in time for the parade, which begins at 5:05pm. Registration is open to all ages and abilities and is free, so stop by OBSS and fill out an entry form today. Day-of registration is available, but closes at 11:00am.

Don’t forget to check out OBSS at the holiday parade too -- we’ve created an unbelievable float with OB Elementary that is sure to steal the show! Please join us after the skate jam and parade for OBSS's open house! And don't forget our owner, Rodger Caldwell, will be serving as grand marshall of the OB Holiday Parade so be sure to swing by!

Go Paddle Around a Pier

Grab your boards and head over to the Ocean Beach Pier for the Paddle For Clean Water this Sunday, September 18th from 9am - 12noon. This year marks the 20th Anniversary for this annual event which helps bring awareness to the pollution problem along San Diego's coastline. Presented by the Surf Rider Foundation, the Paddle For Clean Water is a non-competitive event that consists of over 1000 local surfers and ocean enthusiasts paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier all supporting the cause. The event is a free and is open to all ages and abilities with any human-powered paddle craft. There will also be a complimentary breakfast for all paddlers, guest speakers, a post-event beach cleanup and a raffle featuring prizes such as a retro twin fish surfboard from Eco Boardworks, 20 pairs of sunglasses from Spy (a  OBSS vendor), a collection of gift certificates from San Diego businesses and much more!

Without our beautiful coastline, San Diego would not be the amazing paradise it is today. So join Ocean Beach Surf and Skate, the San Diego Surf Rider Foundation and over 1,000 local watermen and women to support the cause and keep our coastline clean!

Lost Atlas Premiere in Point Loma for a Surf on the Silver Screen!

Drop-in, Animal Style for the Parking Lot Premiere of "What Day Is It?" at Ocean Beach Surf & Skate!

Ocean Beach Surf and Skate and Animal Style Skateboarding are teaming up to present a sweet, outdoor movie premier and party.  On August 12, 2011, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm,  Ocean Beach Surf and Skate is opening up its parking lot for the screening of Animal Style Skateboarding's second film, What Day Is It? starring  Cano Cardenas, Kevin Marquez, Chris Russell, Doug Valdez, Kurt Hodge, Tyler Lee, Gabe Ryan, Steve Shipler and Reuben Barrack.

In addition to the movie, there will be live music from local band, Habitat, a free skate jam open to the public and a smokin' BBQ with food provided by Hodad’s! Ocean Beach Surf and Skate’s very own, Cano Cardenas, will be guest hosting the event and tearing up the skate jam along with other riders from event sponsors.  What better way to kick off the weekend than with the Animal Style and OBSS crew for a free skate jam, movie premier and BBQ on a warm summer’s night? Surf on the Silver Screen Presents: LUCID!

Join Ocean Beach Surf and Skate at The Pearl Hotel for Surf on the Silver Screen, featuring LUCID: an action-packed, air-filled surf film by film by Nicholas Damen and Simon Treweek.

Ocean Beach Community Clean-up with Ocean Minded!

What better way to kick off your weekend than with some good karma? Join Ocean Beach Surf & Skate and Ocean Minded for our first-ever, Ocean Beach Community Clean-up!

Seeing as OB is small beach town, it's inevitable that any trash in our streets will eventually end up in our ocean and that's why Ocean Beach Surf & Skate has teamed up with Ocean Minded to help keep our beaches AND community clean! Grab a bucket and help clean the streets of OB between 3pm - 5pm this Friday.

You can help out for however long as you'd like and we'll be giving away free swag to all of our participants! We'll also be BBQ'n in the parking lot, playing some fun games with Ocean Minded and the skate ramps will be set-up for those who'd like to get some shredding in!

Ocean Minded will be providing all clean-up gear. Thanks for helping keep our community clean!

Body Glove's Latest Film, Drop Zone: Fiji, Chosen to Premiere at Surf on the Silver Screen!

Body Glove and Ocean Beach Surf & Skate are proud to announce the premiere of Drop Zone: Fiji at The Pearl Hotel on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. This premiere promises to be an extraordinary night for The Pearl Hotel’s monthly event, Surf on the Silver Screen, and will feature a very special signing and meet and greet with Body Glove team rider and professional surfer, Cheyne Magnusson.

Body Glove, PADI, Sport Diver, Transworld SURF and Air Pacific are proud to present Drop Zone: Fiji, the highly anticipated sequel to the award winning film, Drop Zone: Tahiti. Drop Zone: Fiji follows world class surfers Holly Beck, Cheyne Magnusson, Alex Gray and newcomers Maria del Mar and current #8 ASP World Tour ranked, Bede Durbidge, as they travel the south pacific.

The crew heads out in search of pristine dive locations and chases down some of the most epic surf on the planet. Your favorite surfers head to Tavarua to surf the world famous Cloudbreak and SCUBA dive (cage free) with bull sharks, vibrant fish and friendly turtles. It’s not all fish and games, however, when they head to Frigates Passage. The pumping swell sinks a boat, destroys thousands of dollars in equipment and almost takes out the director, Greg Browning. The lush environment provided rich entertainment and spawned the unlikely new surf and scuba duo.

In addition to the premiere, Drop Zone: Fiji star and professional surfer, Cheyne Magnusson will be making a very special appearance for an intimate meet and greet and signing from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Body Glove and Ocean Beach Surf & Skate will also raffle off a ton of prizes and The Pearl Hotel will host exclusive food and drink specials throughout the night.

Get Ready for the OBSS 7th Annual Skate Jam and Wall Ride Contest at the OB Street Fair!

If any town knows how to celebrate summer, it’s Ocean Beach! Each year, thousands of people head to Newport Avenue on the Saturday following Summer Solstice for live music, entertainment, unique vendors, talented artists, thrilling rides, refreshing beer gardens, and a skateboard competition for the one and only: Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-off! This one-of-a-kind festival kicks off on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, located on the 4800-5000 blocks of Newport Avenue and surrounding streets in Ocean Beach.

As one of the festival's largest attractions, Ocean Beach Surf & Skate  is proud to present the 7th Annual Skate Jam & Wall Ride Contest at the OB Street Fair. Since OBSS relocated to their new building at 4976 Newport Avenue in 2010, they have expanded this annual skateboard competition by utilizing their private parking lot located directly in the heart of the street fair. 

New to this year’s competition is the Wall Ride Contest, designed and built by skate legend, Neil Heddings. Sponsored by LURKVILLE, the Wall Ride Contest will add a whole new dynamic to the contest by featuring two ramps propped up against the OBSS building, creating a 25-foot wall ride. The Wall Ride Contest will kick-off just after the Skate Jam from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m and the 1^st place winner will receive cash prize.

The street course Skate Jam will begin at 1 p.m. and division winners will take home prizes from sponsors: Sector 9 Skateboards, LURKVILLE Skateboards, FlexDex Skateboards, Creature Skateboards, OJ Wheels, Independent Trucks, Enjoi Skateboards, Almost Skateboards, Globe Footwear, Aerial7 Headphones, IPATH Footwear, DIZM Eyewear and more! The skate event will also feature live demonstrations by LURKVILLE team riders and the all-girl skate team, Girls Skate OB from 12noon – 1 p.m. Pro skateboarder, Neil Heddings, will also make a guest appearance and sign autographs along with the original betty and skateboard’s first woman “Hall of Famer,” Patti Mcgee.

In addition to skateboarding activities, the OBSS parking lot will feature music by the local, Direct Drive DJ’s with Destructo Bunny and booths with games and free swag from OBSS vendors including: Sector 9 Skateboards, LURKVILLE Skateboards, Body Glove, Ocean Minded, Keep-A-Breast, FlexDex Skateboards, Original Betty, Silly Girl and AWOL.

The OBSS 7th Annual Skate Jam and Wall Ride Contest is open to all ages and abilities and helmets are required for all participants under 18 years old. All contestants will receive an official contest t-shirt FREE with entry. Entry fees for day-of sign-ups are $5 for the Skate Jam and $10 for the Wall Ride Contest, which will go towards the cash prize for the 1st place winner. Contestants can save money by pre-registering however. Pre-registration discounts are as follows: $10 entry fee for both contests if registered on or before June 24, 2011; or free entry to both contests with any purchase of $30 or more in skateboard gear at Ocean Beach Surf & Skate. Revolt Summer Surf Series Kick-Off in Ocean Beach!

This platform has allowed the RSSS to help talented surfers advance their skills in a positive and safe competition format. OB Surf & Skate Hosts Skate Demo at the OB Beach Ball this Saturday!

Grab your friends and head down to Ocean Beach for the first annual, OB Beach Ball, a live music and craft beer festival, this Saturday, May 21, 2011. From human haulin' and beach volleyball to skateboarding and mechanical bull riding, the Beach Ball will featuring a variety of games in addition to a micro brew tasting, bloody mary party and music festival. 

The OB Beach Ball will span from the Pier Parking Lot, where the micro brew and music festival will be held, to Saratoga Park, where Ocean Beach Surf and Skate will host the event's skateboard exhibit. Located next to the 70-foot Ferris Wheel and the mechanical bull, the skateboard demonstration will feature open skate sessions, Indo Board demonstrations and a surf simulator. Vendors will also be throwing out some free shwag and a grom contest is in the works!

So grab your board and helmets and head on over to the OB Beach Ball for great Saturday filled with non-stop fun! The OB Beach Ball will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. NEW BRAND ALERT: Locally-based, charitable Jedidiah!

Attention all OBSS shoppers!  There's a new brand in town at your favorite store!

Jedidiah is a humanitarian-based fashion company with a motto of "made for good."  Each season, Jedidiah partners with a different charitable organization and donates proceeds from the retail sales.

We have just gotten in our first Jedidiah items, which include men's and women's tees and tanks (and we'll be getting some sweet Chargers-themed boardies for the guys in June!).  The current partner with Jedidiah is World Vision.  World Vision works to promote the well being of children in crises.  The Jedidiah spring and summer lines' portion of proceeds will be donated to help combat the effects of human trafficking in Central and Southeast Asia.  Jedidiah hopes to raise $50,000, which would enable World Vision to establish an assessment, care, and protection facility that provides first refuge for children rescued from trafficking and exploitation.

The spring and summer lines include apparel that ties in to the World Vision mission.  Photographer Aaron Chang traveled to Cambodia with Jedidiah to capture relevant images, and these images both acted as inspiration for the lines or appear on some of the tees!
